Summer Reading Program

The Miami-Dade Public Library System kicks-off its Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 11 at several branches throughout the County. The program, which continues through July 23, encourages children and teens to read for two or more hours each week to qualify to win one of many Grand Prizes. These prizes include a Miami Dolphins VIP Training Camp Experience; a Miami Dolphins VIP Game-Day Experience; Miami Dolphins Memorabilia; and gift cards to Barnes and Noble, Gamestop, Best Buy and Toys ‘R Us, among many others.

2011 Summer Food Service Program

Miami-Dade Community Action Agency (CAA) will provide meals to children at program sites throughout Miami-Dade County, as part of the 2011 Summer Food Service Program. The Program will operate from June 13, 2011 through August 12, 2011. Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. All children 18 years old and younger are eligible for meals at open sites at no cost. It is the policy of Miami-Dade County that all children will be served without discrimination. The program sites are only approved in geographical areas where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced price meals during the school year.

Program sites are located throughout Miami-Dade County in recreational centers, summer camps, churches, and community based organizations that provide services to children during the summer recess. A list of the participating distribution sites is available to be downloaded from the Miami-Dade County web portal at www.miamidade.gov/caa

Martha Ware Pediatric Rehabilitation Center Award

Please congratulate student Angela Fregeolle who received 2 awards this year for her community service at the Martha Ware Pediatric Rehabilitation Center at Baptist Hospital. Angela received both the Presidential Community Service Award and the National HOSA Community Service Award.
