Junior Year Checklist

One of the advantages of starting to plan in your junior year is the extra time you will have to explore your options.

At this point in time, juniors should:

 Keep in mind that colleges look for:
o A strong GPA
o Challenging high school curriculum
o Involvement in extracurricular activities (school and community)
 Identify the institutions you would like to apply to and request information
 Take challenging classes
 Keep grades up…JUNIOR year is very important
 Register for the spring SAT and ACT (www.sat.collegeboard.com/register and www.actstudent.org )
 Register for the spring SAT Subject test if necessary (www.sat.collegeboard.com/register)
 Get involved in extracurricular activities
 Plan to attend local college presentations and college fairs
 Plan to visit college campuses during spring and summer
 Learn about financial aid and scholarships available from each institution planning to apply to
 Be familiar with scholarship opportunities. Obtain monthly Scholarship Bulletin available at www.varelahs.dadeschools.net. Register at www.fastweb.com for more available scholarships.
